Tuner turns the New Beetle into an adorable camping mini-truck

Volkswagen has never offered us a pickup truck variant of its New Beetle, being understandably concerned about its market prospects. Still, looking at this custom build by Modern Classic Rides, one can’t but regret the fact.

The project was carried by Steve Goodfellow, who sketched up a miniature Beetle pickup/camper and became enamored with it. He acquired a 2000MY New Beetle GLX 1.8 Turbo and set off to work on it.

The adventure-friendly truck ended up with an aluminum bed and a foldable tent on an aluminum frame. Occupants of the tent gain easy access to water-resistant 12V outlet, a USB charger and a LED strip. As for the rest of the typical camping equipment – such as a fridge, a stove or a generator – you can pack it all into the cargo area if you need it.

Goodfellow says more conversions like this are underway, including a massive motorhome-like one with a teardrop trailer attachment.
