Following a series of teases featuring its upcoming crossover SUV Nivus, Volkswagen AG has finally published a series of images where the entire car can be seen – albeit still in disguise.
The coupe-shaped utility vehicle sports a slanted roof and pretty much the same front end as the other recent VW models. It utilizes a modular architecture known as MQB, and comes powered by a 1.0-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine mated to a six-speed automatic box. The officially quoted power rating is 130 horsepower (97 kilowatts).
Later on, a more affordable spec might emerge with a weaker engine and manual transmission. The drive stays on the front axle in all versions, and the available trunk space amounts to meager 415 liters (14.66 cubic feet).
In summer, the VW Nivus will go on sale in Brazil, its country of origin and the primary market. It will later expand to other Latin American markets and eventually come to Europe next year – but likely under a different name.
