The weekend is almost here, so let us snap out of the everyday boredom and look at something fresh and exciting for a change. Something like this vehicle, which holds the official title of world’s fastest-going wooden shed running on gas power.
No, it ain’t no campervan. Apparently designed by someone from Great Britain with a slightly unhinged sense of humor, it runs on the 1999 VW Passat B5 estate/wagon chassis. A tubular metallic framework holds the wooden house together. Of course, there are rear view cameras assisting the driver, apart from the traditional mirrors on the doors.
The vehicle started its life with the stock 2.8-liter V6 engine producing 190 hp (142 kW), but it got boosted to 265 hp (198 kW) shortly afterwards. When the owner felt things were still not interested enough, we went ahead and swapped the standard mill out for a 4.2-liter Audi RS4 V8. Assisted by an MRC Tuning chip, the eight-banger is said to deliver up to 450 hp (336 kW) at the crank.
If this is not impressive enough for you, consider that the hulking, dashing, psychedelic-looking thing is actually road-legal in Great Britain.
On the video above, the world’s pluckiest piece of real estate challenges an Opel Astra 2.0 Turbo and finishes the quarter-mile in 15.49 seconds running at 138 km/h (86 mph). The owner claims it goes all the way up to 181 km/h (112 mph) in a straight line; not sure if any of us relishes the opportunity of standing near it when it does…
