According to multiple reports from automotive news media, the next-gen Volkswagen Passat will hit the European market in 2023 based exclusively on the new MQB platform.
It is reported that the top management of VW decided the fate of the Passat model and ultimately greenlit it into production based on the same chassis, transmission and tech platform as the Skoda Superb.
The current-gen Passat (see the gallery and the video) also uses the MQB tech in Europe, but its U.S. and Chinese counterparts make do with the sixth-gen PQ46 architecture. In its next iteration, the series will switch to MQB, which supports FWD and all-wheel drive, as well as traditional and electric engines.
