Volkswagen currently has three Passat specs worldwide, targeting Europe, the USA and China. The latter just got its mid-generational refresh.
The scope of changes is minimal. All trims now boast a new front bumper and radiator grille, as well as a chrome-free trunk lid. As a result, they look like the latest PHEV version (you may watch the video for a comparison). Inside, there is a climate control unit, new trim materials, and differently arranged accents.
Power-wise, the SUV still comes with a number of turbocharged four-cylinder engines rated at 150 PS (148 hp / 110 kW), 186 PS (183 hp / 137 kW) and 220 PS (217 hp / 162 kW). All three hook up to the same seven-speed DSG transmission.
Sales have already begun starting from the equivalent of U.S. $29,000. The hybrid version will get its share of updates later.
The latest-gen Passat comes based on the MQB platform, is 4,933 mm (116.18 feet) long and enjoys rather brisk sales in China (146,000 units in 2020).
