The car-spotting crowd has had a massive success lately, nabbing a next-generation Volkswagen Passat test car on public roads with barely any disguise on. Judging by what looks like a charging port in the front left fender, it was a hybrid.
The car is expected to debut in 2023 with evolutional, rather than revolutionary changes. From what we can see, it will be getting a broader c-pillar – perhaps the whole car will be longer than it is now.
The wrap still clings to the front and the rear end, concealing redesigned lights and radiator grille. The hood cover looks more muscular and the bumper seems to have larger air intakes than before, but these are just guesses at this point.
Powertrain-wise, the new Passat lineup will ship with an assortment of next-generation engines running on petrol and diesel, some of them electrified.
