Volkswagen has introduced the new Passat generation, which is coming to us exclusively in wagon body style and should become available in Europe in early 2024.
The model has moved onto the MQB Evo platform, resulting in a longer body and more interior/trunk space. On the outside, it received new headlights, bumpers, stamped hood and fenders, as well as a sportier overall outline. New ‘IQ/Light’ matrix headlights are available at a premium.
The interior has been completely redesigned with a new 10.25-inch digital dash screen and a 12.9-inch multimedia display now included in the base spec. Paying extra nets you a larger 15-inch head unit. The transmission selector has moved from the transmission tunnel to the steering wheel, freeing up space for a wireless charger.
For the engine, you could grab an entry-level petrol turbo rated at 204 PS (201 hp / 150 kW) or its upmarket counterpart capable of 265 PS (261 hp / 195 kW). There are three diesels on the list with 122, 150 and 193 metric horsepower (120, 148 and 191 hp; 90, 110 and 142 kW, respectively).
Should that not feel modern enough, there is a mild hybrid on the list with 150 PS (148 hp / 110 kW) and two plug-in hybrids rated at 204 and 272 PS (201 and 268 hp; 150 and 200 kW). All-electric range maxes out at 100 km (62 miles).
