Do you remember the road-going version of the Volkswagen Polo R WRC racecar, which packed a 2.0-liter turbo V4 rated at 220 hp (164 kW) and 475 Nm (350 lbft) of torque? Even the current Polo GTI has only 200 hp (150 kW) and 320 Nm (236 lbft) at its disposal. Then again, the R WRC was a limited edition, whereas the Polo GTI is a production car…
Still, someone over at Wimmer thought it would be good to give the old hot hatch some tuner love. The tuner has redesigned the turbocharger, improved the intake and the exhaust, added a 6-bar fuel pump and an intercooler, and remapped the ECU. As a result, the humble four-banger ascended to 420 hp (313 kW) and 651 Nm (480 lbft) of torque.
The tuner claims the top going speed of the fully upgraded VW Polo R WRC amounts to 280 km/h (174 km/h).
As you probably realize, this kind of performance comes with a price tag to match. The Level IV kit costs €10,200, coilovers will set you back €1,700, and a set of BBS wheels clad in performance tires will add another €2,200 to the bill. You could buy a brand-new Volkswagen Up! for less than this in Grmany…
