VW Motorsport CEO Sven Smeets and VW Technical Director Francois-Xavier Demaison have taken the veil off the company’s latest rally car – the Polo GTI R5 – during a posh presentation held at a race course near Spanish Palma de Mallorca.
The new sports car comes equipped with a 1.6-liter turbocharged engine with direct fuel injection. It can deliver up to 272 horsepower with 400 Nm torque and accelerate the car to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.1 seconds.
A senior, sports-oriented VW Polo GTI R5 features wider wheel arches, bigger bumpers, a trunk lid-mounted spoiler, and an air intake unit on the roof.
The vehicle will participate in ADAC Rallye Deutschland in August 2018.
