As you may have heard, Volkswagen AG has caved under the customer pressure and admitted that replacing all traditional buttons and switches with touchscreens was a mistake. The upcoming electric ID.Polo hatchback will bring back the buttons, but it will go an extra mile and bring back some of the 1980s-era dash aesthetics, as evidenced by these recent teasers.
Based on the images, the familiar 10.3-inch dash display will be getting an “analog” UI skin reminiscent of something you could have seen in a retro car from the ‘80s. As usual, those who don’t like retro will be able to select a different gauge presentation. The 13-inch multimedia display in the middle is also nothing new, but there is now a rotary dial on the console between the seats that can be used to access the most popular infotainment features. Buttons for lighting and HVAC controls reside on the steering wheel spokes.
An earlier leak revealed the main technical parameters of the ID. Polo. If it is to be trusted, the EV will ship with four powertrains to choose from ranging from 116 to 226 PS (114–223 hp; 85–166 kW, accordingly). Only one battery pack has been patented so far, though, and not a big one. At 52 kilowatt-hours of capacity, VW reckons it should be enough for 450 km (~280 miles) of range per charge.
