The Volkswagen Taos Basecamp Concept debuted last month, and now, a rather watered-down trim package has reached the production under the same name.
Picking the $999 Basecamp option adds fake rocker guards, wheel arch extensions with mudguards, and a radiator grille badge to tell everyone your Taos is special. You can also order these elements individually, and authorized dealerships will install them.
The show car from last month additionally featured custom wheels shod in all-terrain tires, LED lights on the roof, contrast-rich accents, and a reworked chassis supported on longer suspension springs for a higher ground clearance. None of it made it into the package.
A similar option exists for the Volkswagen Atlas, albeit that one is arguably better featured with off-road wheels, bumper guards and other such handy details.
