Car spotters have already caught the new Tiguan R SUV on camera (see the video if you missed it), and now, the production car hit the Nürburgring track with barely any disguise on, except for headlights and bumpers.
Just like the technically related Golf R, the Volkswagen Tiguan R boasts a new body kit that sets it apart from the regular Tiguan, a sported-up cabin, enhanced braking and suspension, and a more potent engine. The latter bit remains without comment right now, but in all likelihood the Golf R will give the new Tiguan its two-liter turbocharged engine rated at 333 PS (328 hp, or 245 kW).
In its current generation, the Tiguan maxes out at 230 hp (170 kW) and 350 Nm (258 lb-ft) of torque sourced from a two-liter, four-cylinder turbo engine. This is enough to take it from standstill to 100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 6.3 seconds. There is also a twin-turbo diesel engine with the same displacement volume, which comes rated at 240 hp (178 kW) and 500 Nm (369 lb-ft). This version of the Tiguan performs the sprint in 6.5 seconds.
