VW Tiguan bows in Europe with PHEV option, up to 272 PS

The third generation of the Volkswagen Tiguan has been officially introduced in Europe. It runs on the MQB Evo platform and is FWD by default, with the option to pay extra for AWD.

The manufacturer emphasizes the new plug-in hybrid options. There are two of them, one rated at 204 PS (201 hp / 150 kW) and the other one at 272 PS (268 hp / 200 kW). Both utilize the same 19.7-kWh battery pack and have around 100 km (62 mph) of electric range.

There is also a 1.5T four-cylinder mild hybrid and a couple of traditional, non-electrified 2.0T options rated at 204 and 265 PS (201/261 hp; 150/195 kW). Two diesels are also available with 150 and 193 PS (148/190 hp; 110/142 kW).
