VW Tiguan PHEV hits market in Europe

The Volkswagen Tiguan can now be obtained with two new hybrid powertrains in Europe. Here are all the details, including the trim options and the prices.

The Tiguan PHEV offers roughly 900 km (559 miles) of range in combined mode and costs from €48,655. In both implementations, it relies on a single electric motor rated at 116 PS (114 hp / 85 kW), a 1.5-liter turbocharged petrol engine and a six-speed dual-clutch transmission. The main difference is in the engine power: the base spec churns out 204 PS (201 hp / 150 kW) and the top spec manages 272 PS (268 hp / 200 kW).

Both versions rely on the same 19.7-kWh traction battery. It’s still twice as large as in the old generation, so the all-electric range now amounts to a cool 120 km (74 miles). This is even better than Volkswagen’s original promise of 100 km (62 mi). Charging it is made easy thanks to an 11-kW on-board charger (the old one was much slower with its 3.6 kW of charging power).

Elsewhere, the new Tiguan features an infotainment system with a modern voice assistant powered by ChatGPT technology. It can record and store self-parking routes up to 50 meters (164 ft.) long and rides better thanks to standard adaptive suspension. New matrix LED headlights and seats with air massage are available as premium options, but you get LED headlights in all trim levels. The same goes for 17-inch wheels, a 12.9-inch infotainment display and a single-zone HVAC.
