New top-spec Volkswagen Touareg gets Audi SQ7 engine

German automotive giant Volkswagen AG will attend the impending Geneva Motor Show with the top performance version of its Touareg SUV. The car gets the same V8 turbo diesel engine as the Audi SQ7 and should become available in Europe in late May.

The engine in question is a four-liter unit capable of 421 hp (314 kW) and 900 Newton-meters (664 pound-feet) of torque, the latter attainable starting at 1,000 RPM. Equipped with it, the Touareg sprints 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 4.9 seconds and can eventually reach 250 km/h (155 mph).

Customers will be able to choose between two interior styling packages: Elegance and Atmosphere. The former comes in cold, metallic hues, while the latter offers a warmer alternative with natural wood highlights. Regardless of your choice, the door panels of the car come trimmed with fine leather.

Standard equipment now includes air suspension, power-assisted trunk lid, adaptive matrix LED headlights, 19-inch wheels and stainless-steel pedals. Driver aids include traffic jam assist, night vision, electromechanical roll stabilization, and steering rear wheels.

Prices for the new Volkswagen Touareg V8 TDI series will be announced later.
