Jost Capito, CEO of Volkswagen’s sports-oriented R subdivision, said in an interview that his development team does not prioritize short sprint times over everything else. Instead, the company puts an emphasis on steering performance and 100-160 km/h (60-100 mph) acceleration dynamics.
The R team also strives to make electric cars every bit as enjoyable to drive as their ICE counterparts.
The first fully electric Volkswagen R should emerge within the next four years, the company reports. The VW ID.3 (see the photos and the video) will likely be the first to make the transition, followed by the ID.4.
Right now, the only Volkswagen R on offer is the Touareg R, which packs 462 PS (456 hp / 340 kW) and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque.
