Car manufacturer Volkswagen AG has revealed the exterior and specs of its Transporter 6.1. The facelifted van received a fresh appearance alongside with a number of technological improvements, and should debut at the bauma 2019 expo in Munich, Germany.
Compared to the old Transporter, the 6.1 version sports a different radiator grille, narrower headlights, and restyled bumpers both front and rear.
Perhaps the most important new feature comes in the form of power-assisted steering, which in turn unlocks access to most modern driver aids and safety features. Among other things, the series will now take advantage of the Trailer Assist option that makes backing up easier when driving with a trailer attached.
Buyers of the new Volkswagen Transporter T6.1 will be able to order it with a power outlet, a lockable box under the two-seat sofa, or empty space under the seats (useful when transporting long cargo).
The standard features now include heated power side mirrors, LED interior lighting, an audio system with Bluetooth connectivity, and power windows.
The van will ship with a range of 2.0-liter diesel engines rated at 90, 110, 150 and 199 horsepower (67, 82, 112 and 148 kilowatts, respectively). The strongest of these will be available with the AWD option. An all-electric version of the van with around 400 km (250 miles) of range will also arrive later.
