The E-Bulli is a one-off concept car made by VWN eClassic, which is a part of Volkswagen Group. Today, the developer has released another portion of images along with the specs of the battery-powered old-timer.
The donor vehicle here is a 1966 T1 Samba minibus. In its stock guise, it packs an opposite-cylinder engine rated at just 44 hp (33 kW). eClassic swaps that one out for an electric motor good for 83 hp (61 kW) and 210 Nm (155 lb-ft) of torque. Powered like this, the bus hits 130 km/h (81 mph) going in a straight line.
A 45-kWh battery gives it approximately 200 kilometers (124 miles) of range, and you can top it up 0-80% within 40 minutes at an adequately powerful charging station.
The driver’s cockpit gets a new drive mode switch, a miniature color LCD of the on-board computer tucked inside the odometer gauge, and a large infotainment display at the ceiling.
Outside, the e-Bulli stays true to the stock T1 appearance, with only the battery indicators betraying its electric essence. That, and the new LED-based headlights are going to make a difference at night.
The front axle now takes advantage of multi-link suspension, while the rear one benefits from coilovers and adjustable shock absorbers. The steering is rack-and-gear type, and the disc brakes are air-cooled for efficiency.
The unique e-Bulli costs €65,000, VWN eClassic reports. However, the manufacturer will soon launch small-batch production of battery-powered classical Transporters of the first, second and third generation.
