The “crossover convertible” section of the automotive market is one of the least populated ones today, making the VW T-Roc Cabrio its king. A video review that came out this weekend will help you understand it better.
The original T-Roc SUV debuted in 2017 as a smaller alternative to the Tiguan and more or less on par with the Golf. The droptop variant was added less than two years ago, probably to fill in the gap left by the retirement of the open-topped Beetle.
Much engineering effort went into converting a soft-roader into a cabriolet. New bodywork had to manufactured, the wheelbase extended and the rear end completely redesigned. The car now has only two doors instead of five and only 284 liters (10 cubic feet) of luggage space, because it needs to keep its soft top in the trunk when folded down. The SUV has 161 lilters (5.7 cubic feet) more truck space.
