Check out a cleverly redesigned VW Vanagon running on Subaru power

New campervan sales reached their peak in 2021 with the pandemic cited among the primary reasons, but Ryan from Vaan Design Co found an alternative solution for those in the market for an affordable motorhome. In the 18-minute video, he shows us that you could just as well buy a used RV and work from there.

The car shown here is a 1986 Volkswagen Vanagon, and you will be surprised with the sheer scope of interior modifications. First, however, let us consider the exterior. As you can see, the van comes finished in bronze and beige and rocks LED lighting all around. A shovel and an axe are provided for emergencies, and a tall fixed roof replaces the original pop top The Vanagon had (browse through our gallery for a glimpse of the original RV).

Peek inside the engine bay to discover a 2.5-liter Subaru EJ25 engine rated at 165 PS (163 hp / 121 kW). Ryan claims the new engine is both more powerful and more reliable than the original one.

As for the interior, you would really be better off just watching the video to get the full picture. Vaan Design Co has managed to stuff the compact van with a full-fledged kitchen, a sink, a couple of tables, two beds, and even a WC.
