Volkswagen ID. Aero breaks cover at long last

The much-anticipated Volkswagen ID. Aero had been scheduled for premiere this spring, but the returning pandemic caused the show to be delayed. Luckily for us, someone at the VW HQ grew tired of waiting and decided to dispense with the mystery.

The ID. Aero is a design study envisioned as an evolutionary step forward from the ID. Vizzion Concept shown a while ago. While neither is technically meant for the mass market, the Aero comes much closer to production status thanks to its viable body design, impressively low drag (0.23) and plenty of WLTP-rated driving range (620 km, or 385 miles).

The other technicalities remain hidden, although VW does reveal that the body of the all-electric flagship saloon is five meters (16.4 feet) long and its wheels are 22 inches large. The car is based on the MEB platform and should ultimately become the pinnacle of the VW ID family.

China will be the first to receive the Aero-based production car in late 2023, followed by Europe and North America in that order.
