Volvo Trucks has uploaded the first teaser of its upcoming all-electric truck called VNR Electric. The company plans to start shipping it to select enterprises in California in 2019 and make it widely available in 2020. The Tesla Semi is going to become its main competitor.
The environment-friendly Volvo truck can haul up to 27 metric tons (59,500 lb). Based on the VNR platform, it sports a glowing logo, L-shaped daytime running lights and a battery charge indicator.
Early builds will ship with FE Electric powertrains consisting of two engines together capable of 503 hp (375 kW) and 850 Nm (627 lbft) of torque. The battery will be able to store between 200 to 300 kWh of electricity, meaning a driving range of approximately 200 kilometers (125 miles).
