Ancient Volvo Amazon lives again thanks to transplanted Corvette parts

Most restomods are based on iconic cars of the 20th century, be it Ford Mustang, Dodge Charger, Mercedes, BMW, or something else. In contrast, our today’s example is a 1963 Volvo Amazon (120/130 Series).

Jeff Allen, the current owner of the coupe, engine-swapped it to the humongous V8 7.0 of the 2013 Chevrolet Corvette Z06. He made the mill work in tandem with a new six-speed automatic transmission and used a Lingenfelter boost kit to dial it up to 600 horsepower (447 kilowatts) – more than six times the output of the car’s stock 80hp engine.

Allen did not provide any acceleration numbers, but the bulky Z06 sprints 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in under four seconds and maxes out close to 300 km/h (186 mph). The much more lightweight Volvo Amazon should perform similarly.

Other noteworthy highlights include wide Forgeline GTD-5 Monoblock wheels wrapped in BFGoodrich semi-slicks, brand-new suspension, and a body kit. The latter incorporates a new hood cove with large air intakes, Clinched fenders, a new front spoiler, and a 3D-printed rear wing.

The cabin now houses Recaro bucket seats with five-point safety harnesses, a climate control system, a modern infotainment unit, a high-end audio system, and more. Much of this was also taken from the Chevrolet Corvette Z06.
