Old Volvo shines again in a carbon racer body

Cyan Racing has unveiled Volvo P1800 Cyan, a pure track day tool based on the 1964 Volvo P1800 (see video). The car may lack stability control, ABS or power brakes, but it has to be fun to drive.

The racing team fits the original chassis with stainless-steel reinforcements and encases it in a complex new titanium framework and carbon fiber body. The result is a vehicle that weighs mere 990 kilograms (2,180 lbs). Powering it is a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine rated at 420 hp (330 kW) and 455 Nm (336 lb-ft) of torque. The transmission includes a Holinger five-speed manual gearbox and an adjustable limited-slip differential.

Further noteworthy features include configurable wheel span and camper, as well as adjustable caster angle and shock travel. Both axles make of use tubular roll stabilizers.
