Volvo has launched a rather interesting promotion campaign in Belgium: an app named Street Configurator lets you take a picture of a Volvo car on the street and instantly get a detailed rundown of its characteristics, down to minute trim details.
The application uses Augmented Reality and a vast database containing all Volvo models and modifications available in Belgium. It does not identify imported models yet, but rumor has it other countries may get the app later.
Once you make a photo, the Street Configurator tells you what specification the car is and offers you to open the Belgian car configurator with all the relevant options ticked and their respective pricing.
The creators of the app, Famous Grey and Volvo Belgium, call it their response to the cancellation of the Brussels Auto Show in January. Aside from reminding everyone that they are alive, Volvo hopes to bolster online car sales this way.
