Volvo Trucks just issued a statement saying it would release an all-electric, environmentally friendly truck to combat air pollution in large cities. Remarkably enough, the vehicle should become available in Europe later this year, with the U.S. market premiere coming next after that.
While we still don’t have any kind of technical specifications to go by at the moment, many car professionals say the new Volvo truck will most likely compete with the Tesla Semi in its market segment.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk introduced his battery-driven Tesla Semi truck last fall. The vehicle can accelerate 0-100 km/h in 5 seconds when empty or 20 seconds when fully loaded with 36 metric tons (80,000 lbs.) cargo on board. It can also run for 800 kilometers before depleting its vast array of batteries.
