A 1986 Volvo 480ES, the marque’s first production car with a front wheel drive, is looking for a new owner in Belgium with an asking price as low as €22,450.
Back in its era, the car was praised for its aerodynamic body and pop-up headlights, coming far ahead of the 200- and 700-series Volvo models. This particular example has only 77 km (48 mi) on the odometer, essentially making it a perfectly preserved time capsule.
The seller claims it is a pre-production vehicle because it has chassis number 184. The first production unit had number 384 on the chassis.
The hatchback sports a black body and a grey/black velour interior. Strangely enough, the rear row is represented by two individual seats separated by a tall console, rather than the usual bench seat for three. The dashboard also looks atypical for Volvo.
Power comes from a 1.7-liter inline-four engine mated to a five-speed manual gearbox for 109 PS (107 hp / 80 kW). A recent maintenance saw the liquids, filters and belts changed.
Volvo produced the 480ES in 1986-1995. A cabriolet version was also in the plans, but the company decided against releasing it after debuting a prototype at the 1990 Geneva IMS.
