Volvo unveils a new Drive-E engine for its new XC40

The Swedish automotive brand Volvo has officially confirmed that its next XC40 SUV line gets equipped with a brand-new Drive-E engine. The company’s first three-cylinder engine is capable of up to 158 hp and 265 Nm of torque and can be coupled with either an 8-speed automatic or a 6-speed manual transmission.

According to a representative of the brand, the new engine can accelerate the new Volvo XC40 to a maximum of 200 km/h (120 mph) and enables it to sprint 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 9.4 seconds. With a consumption of slightly above 7 liters of gasoline per 100 kilometers traveled (that would be ~40 miles per gallon), it is also pretty fuel-efficient.

The same engine is going to be later incorporated into a hybrid drivetrain of the new Volvo XC40 model.

A high-end model named Volvo XC40 Inscription has also enjoyed its premiere recently. It will come to the market with unique body lacquering and interior design, custom wheel sets 18 to 21 inches large, and additional decorative moldings.
