Volvo plans to expand its lineup with a new all-electric minivan later this year, CarNewsChina reports referencing the words of one of the company executives in China. There are also plans to launch a compact e-SUV on that market soon.
By the end of 2023, the Volvo lineup for China will consist of six models. The XC40 and C40 models are already on sale, and the EX90 was introduced not long ago. The latter is scheduled to get a deluxe version called Excellence in the coming months. In addition to this, the company plans to introduce an all-new compact crossover SUV and a van – both fully electric.
The van may be based on the Zeekr 009 model, including its chassis and dual-motor powertrain rated at 544 PS (536 hp / 400 kW). The currently available spec has more than 800 km (500 miles) of range. Later on, Zeekr plans to introduce a single-motor alternative.
CarNewsChina believes that the Volvo van may be based on the same chassis and powertrain while sporting a different exterior. The first prototype may be revealed in Q3 2023, while the sales may start near the end of the year.
It is unclear just how different the EX90 Excellence will be from the standard SUV. A longer wheelbase and a couple of individual second-row seats are high on our list of expectations.
As for the compact crossover mentioned above, it has already been announced in Europe as the EX30. Volvo is targeting younger audiences with this model.
