A final vote to determine the winner of the annual European Car of the Year competition has been held in Geneva prior to the 88th International Motor Show. The award went to Volvo’s XC40 crossover SUV, thus bringing the Swedish brand its second victory at the competition.
According to the official media release, the Volvo XC40 has been voted for by the majority of the jury, followed by SEAT Ibiza and BMW 5-Series. Other contenders included Citroen C3 Aircross, Kia Stinger, and Audi A8.
The Volvo XC40 mini-SUV debuted last year. The car is based on the CMA platform which the company expects to use for all of its forthcoming 40-series releases.
The same prize has been claimed by Peugeot 3008 in 2017.
