The Swedish car manufacturer Volvo has officially introduced its first-ever all-electric truck, aptly named the FL Electric. The first vehicles will soon roll out onto the streets of Gothenburg, Sweden equipped as garbage trucks.
According to an official spokesman of the company, the all-new 2018 Volvo FL Electric can travel up to 300 kilometers (187 miles) before exhausting its battery charge. Its engine revs up to a respectable 425 Nm of torque (that’s approx. 315 lb•ft). The vehicle only needs 2 hours to charge up from a DC charging station; an AC source will do as well, but will extend charging time to 10 hours.
Volvo claims their low-noise FL Electric truck is ideal for urban use, especially at nighttime. A self-driving variant thereof is currently in the works.
