Swedish car brand Volvo has pleasantly surprised more than a few of its fans when it introduced a plug-in hybrid modification of the Volvo XC40 SUV at the Beijing Automotive Exhibition (Auto China 2018).
Volvo cooperated with the Chinese automaker Geely to develop the drivetrain of this model. The car ended up receiving a tandem of a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine yielding 180 hp (134 kW) and a weaker electric engine adding an extra 75 hp (56 kW). That’s a total of 250 hp (186 kW) and 400 Nm (295 lb·ft) of torque. Actually, Geely’s upcoming Lynk&Co 01 and Lynk&Co 02 are likely to get the same or similar powertrains.
The hybrid Volvo XC40 offers three drive modes to switch among: Power (both engines run without limitations), Hybrid (the most fuel-efficient), and Pure (all-electric).
The original Volvo XC40 crossover/SUV debuted at a show event in Milan, Italy in 2017. Production took place in Ghent, Belgium.
