The Swedish car manufacturer just announced that it had been working on an algorithm of real-time data exchange between Volvo Trucks and Volvo Cars. Once implemented, the system could increase drivers’ awareness when driving over potentially dangerous stretches of the road.
The IT department of the company will first have to create a uniform cloud service for real-time data storage and exchange. Volvo cars will then be able to detect accident situations on the road ahead well in advance. The developers promise all data submitted will be anonymous.
This is how it is going to work, exactly. If a Volvo car suddenly stops somewhere in the middle of the road, upon entering a tunnel or before making a turn, all other Volvo vehicles nearby will receive a warning signal. Fog and slippery road warnings will also be supported in the future.
Volvo passenger cars equipped with the Hazard Light Alert system will begin receiving such warnings from trucks before the end of the year.
The passenger car manufacturer Volvo Cars is currently owned by the major Chinese conglomerate Geely. Trucks are still produced by the Swedish AB Volvo, but it’s worth mentioning that Geely has recently purchased a major share in the latter.
