Volvo has expanded the lineup of its C40 electric coupe/SUV with a new variant driven by a single front-mounted motor. The standard spec was dual-motor/AWD only.
The battery was also made smaller, but Volvo claims this had nearly zero impact on the range. The price, on the other hand, dropped by nearly €9,000.
The manufacturer’s international website mentions installing a 69-kWh traction battery instead of the old 78-kWh one. In turn, the German website states the range: 434 kilometers, or 270 miles. The old version had 439 km (273 miles) of WLTP-rated range, so the difference is negligible.
The sole engine driving the new C40 exerts 231 PS (228 hp / 170 kW) and 330 Nm (243 lb-ft) of torque, taking it to a top speed of 160 km/h (99 mph). In contrast, the AWD variant has 408 PS (402 hp / 300 kW) and 660 Nm (487 lb-ft) of torque. It also maxes out at 180 km/h (112 mph) and needs 4.7 seconds for the standard sprint (the single-motor spec needs 7.4 seconds).
Pricing starts from €45,280, a €8,800 discount from the AWD variant.
