The all-electric Volvo EX30 crossover made it into the top-3 list of the North American Car of the Year award this year, but the company willingly removed it from the list, admitting that it would be unable to start shipping it before the end of December. A replacement candidate has already been announced.
According to Automotive News referencing Volvo representatives, the EX30 had been scheduled for debut in North America in November. However, due to unspecified reasons, the official launch date has been pushed back to January 2024 and the actual deliveries to mid-2024. According to the rules of the competition, this precludes the EV from participating in the NACTOY award.
The jury picked the battery crossover as one of the contenders in the Utility Vehicle category alongside the Kia EV9 and the Genesis GV70. With it removed from the top-3, the vacant place will now be occupied by the Hyundai Kona. It’s also remarkable that all three candidates for America’s best SUV are now of South Korean origin and belong to the same automotive corporation.
The winners will be announced on January 4, 2024.
