Volvo is considering the production of battery-powered saloons and estate cars, CEO and President Jim Rowan said in an interview. He provided no further details.
The Swedish automaker used to be associated with classical four- and five-door car designs, but its current EV lineup consists exclusively of SUVs. The platform-sharing XC40 recharge and C40 Recharge were the first two entries, with the five-meter-long EX90 SUV shown in the gallery and video below joining them later. The EX90 is the marque’s new flagship that’s both larger and more powerful than the XC90 it aspires to replace. Another, smaller crossover SUV is slated for release next year.
Rowan promised to stay true to the customer wishes when deciding on the body style of the company’s new Ev, but admitted that actual sales figures would play the biggest role. He also pointed out that it was essential for the company to reach a parity between ICE cars and EVs, because it could not survive on state subsidies alone.
