Volvo considers making the EX90 go easier on the wallet

Speaking in an interview with Motor Trend, Volvo Cars North America executive Javier Varela said less expensive modifications of the company’s current all-electric flagship, the EX90, might go on sale later.

The crossover SUV debuted last month based on an all-new architecture powered by two electric motors with three seat rows inside. According to Varela, the architecture used lends itself well to cheaper modifications, which could join the lineup in the coming few years if the company decides to do so.

These simpler EX90 variants are envisioned with only two seat rows inside and possibly just one engine instead of two, driving the rear axle alone.

Asked whether any higher-end models could also be introduced in the future, he said it was rather likely. For one thing, the Polestar 3 – which debuted slightly ahead of the EX90 – came based on the same platform as the Volvo flagship. Both models will go into production in China next year.
