Volvo EX90, Polestar 3 launch postponed by 6 months

Have you been waiting for the Volvo EX90 or its technical sibling, the Polestar 3, to ship? Keep waiting. The production has just been postponed from late 2023 to mid-2024.

Both car brands have simultaneously reported about their decision, with Polestar openly pointing at Volvo as the party responsible. In its brief comment, the Swedish automaker said that developing and testing the required software would take considerably longer than expected.

Summarizing its financial performance in the first quarter of 2023, Polestar admitted that Volvo had notified it about software issues with its latest EV platform. In practical terms, it means that the new Polestar 3 will not reach production until at least Q1 2024, as opposed to the original target of August 2023. The situation isn’t looking any brighter for the Volvo EX90, which is now expected in “H1 2024”.

In the aftermath of the software development fiasco, Polestar had to adjust its production target for this year down to just 70,000 units from the original 80,000. Even so, the company is on track to a rather successful year compared to 2022, in which it had sold just 51,500 cars.
