Have a look at a vintage Volvo emanating Corvette charms

A 1957 Volvo Sport P1900, one of the last examples made, is up for grabs in Belgium right now without a set price. Volvo is believed to have produced only 67 roadsters like this one inspired by the earlier Chevy Corvette generations.

According to rumors, the idea to produce a car like this (see video) came to Assar Gabrielsson, company CEO at the time, when he saw one of the first Corvettes. The Volvo engineering department produced a chassis for it, but outsourced the design of a glass-fiber body to Glasspar in California. The Swedish-American car received a 1.4-liter inline-four engine rated at 70 PS (69 hp / 51 kW).

Allegedly, Volvo hit the brake on the production due to serious quality issues and ended up only making several dozen such cars. Rumor has it that Gabrielsson eventually went on a vacation in a Volvo Sport P1900 and was so frustrated with the car that he ordered a production shutdown.

This example bearing the serial number 65 was produced for one of the company’s U.S. dealerships. It had spent four decades in the States before a car collector from Europe imported it back and had it completely restored in the early 2000s.

The seller claims the vehicle is in excellent condition after the restoration and also thanks to being virtually unused. In the USA, it had mostly stood parked in a showroom. With no more than 50 examples of the roadster surviving to this day, it might fetch a tidy sum.
