Volvo has held a presentation dedicated to its next-generation S60 sedan series in Charleston, South Carolina, USA, during the opening of a new factory in the city.
The next generation of Volvo S60 is unique in that respect that it won’t be available with a diesel engine. Options are limited to a 2.0-liter, turbocharged gasoline V4 engine capable of almost 250 hp (186 kW), a stronger one with 310 hp / 231 kW, and two hybrid engines rated at 340 and 400 hp (254 – 298 kW). The latter two are known as the T6 and T8 Twin Engine AWD, respectively.
The sedan uses the SPA car platform and is 4,761 mm (15.6 ft.) long, 2,040 mm (6.7 ft.) wide and 1,431 mm (4.7 ft.) tall. It also now has a wheelbase of 2,872 mm (9.4 ft.), which is 96 mm or almost 4 inches longer than in the previous version.
The trunk volume went up 62 liters to a total of 442, or 1,680 if you fold the back seat row.
The equipment list now includes semi-autonomous driving (the autopilot can assume steering, braking and acceleration at speeds under 130 km/h or 80 mph), animal and pedestrian recognition, lane control, and back-up assistance.
The new generation of Volvo S60 will be added to the U.S. car-sharing service Care by Volvo. You may pay a monthly subscription fee to gain access to this sedan model any time of day or night. The fee already covers taxes, insurance and maintenance, so that the client only pays for gasoline.
