Volvo vows to go full-electric by 2030

Volvo has shared its model range electrification strategy valid until 2030. According to it, hybrids will account for 50% of the marque’s international car sales in four years, while the other 50% will be electric cars. Only the latter category will survive by 2030.

The presentation slide revealed shows seven battery-powered models Volvo plans to launch by 2025. This includes the current XC40 Recharge SUV (see the gallery and the video) and six new vehicles, including one 40 Series model.

All sales will succeed online, with dealerships’ functions limited to pre-sale preparation, transferring orders, maintenance and service.

Volvo Cars CEO Håkan Samuelsson announced the move towards complete electrification last December, but talks about discontinuing old IC engines had been going on several years before. It is official now that the Swedish automaker will not be producing new versions of its current IC engines, including even the relatively recent Drive E petrol and diesel units.
