It is official now that Volvo will be bringing mild-hybrid versions of its S60, XS60, S90 and V90 models to the United States next year. The old T5 and T6 powertrains will make room for part-electric B5 and B6 ones, improving fuel economy and reducing emissions.
The company has not quoted any numbers so far, but one can expect the hybrids to have the same or slightly less power than their ICE counterparts. For instance, the Euro-spec B5 is a two-liter, four-cylinder engine with 247 PS (244 hp / 182 kW) at the output end, whereas its predecessor – the T6 – had 250 PS (247 hp / 184 kW). The same applies to the B6, which churns out around 20 horsepower (15 kilowatts) less than its non-electrified sibling.
In other related news, Volvo’s flagship – the XC90 – will get an all-electric version in 2022.
