Volvo XC40, XC60 & XC90 get bulletproof treatment

Volvo has presented armored versions of its XC40, XC60 and XC90 SUVs for South America, co-designed with EDAG (Germany) and Carbon Blindados (Brazil). The cars will eventually reach the market in Europe, too.

Compared to their unprotected counterparts, all three SUVs feature Kevlar padding and stainless-steel plating, bulletproof glass domes, and reinforced door frames and hinges. The specific class of ballistic protection is not discussed at this point, and each armored vehicle comes at a premium of 70,000 Brazilian Real (14,600 USD) over the standard one.

The development crew claims it has spent around 1,000 hours testing the ballistic protection before making it available.

Volvo has already released an armored XC90 once (see video for details). The SUV boasted a higher grade of protection than the current trio and started from £450,000 in Great Britain.
