Volvo’s ambition is to have half of its vehicle lineup electrified by 2025 and to ditch internal combustion tech altogether soon thereafter. According to CEO Hokan Samuelsson, the company hopes to go through with these plans as soon as possible.
Speaking in a recent interview, Samuelsson pointed out that the next-gen XC90 might just wind up being the last Volvo-branded car to ship with a fossil fuel engine, among other options.
He emphasized that the actual terms will depend on how quickly the EV-related infrastructure evolves to respond to the market growth, and how readily the customers embrace the change.
