Automotive startup Weltmeister has unveiled a new concept car dubbed the Champion, which it claims may outperform the recently revealed Rimac Nevera in terms of raw power and acceleration.
The young company had initially been praised by investors and market experts, but has now fallen firmly behind its competition including Li Auto, XPeng and Nio. Could the announcement of a racecar – not just some battery SUV, mind you – be its way of making a big comeback? We will have to wait and see.
The Weltmeister Champion comes based on the W6 model (see video), but benefits from radical improvements to its aerodynamic kit and chassis. Two electric motors drive four wheels with 816 PS (805 hp / 600 kW). Battery capacity remains undiscussed, but the company claims it is FIA-compliant. Getting from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) allegedly takes 1.8 seconds, making the concept faster than the Tesla Model S Plaid and the Rimac Nevera.
