Wey’s retro-inspired Dream SUV crops up on official photos

Chinese automaker Wey has shared the first images of its upcoming crossover SUV named Yuanmeng, or Dream. According to AutoHome.cn, the car will be unveiled in its full glory at the Chengdu Motor Show tomorrow, August 26.

Judging by the images, the design largely stays faithful to the last year’s Wey V72 Concept (see video). Only some minor details have been changed – for instance, the side mirrors have become larger, wire-spoked wheels yielded the arches to simpler, bulkier-looking alloys, and chromed bumpers at both ends have shed some weight.

Interior shots remain to be made, but we saw an early prototype in May this year that had round air vents on the dash, chromed buttons and toggles and three displays built into the dashboard. You can find that spy shot at the end of our gallery here.

Size-wise, the Wey Dream measures 4830 х 1995 х 1725 millimeters L/W/H with 2,915 mm between the axles. As such, it is marginally smaller than the Toyota Highlander, but with a longer wheelbase.

The company mentioned shipping the car with a Great Wall-badged hybrid drivetrain based on a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine rated at 156 PS (154 hp / 115 kW). Buyers will be able to choose between FWD and AWD. Other options have not yet been announced.
