Tank rolls out an electric bike

Tank, a Chinese car brand known for its SUVs, has expanded its product range with an electric bike also suited for off-road use. It comes with all-terrain tires and 100 km (62 miles) of range, but makes do with a single horsepower. The asking price is 15,000 Yuan, or $2,100.

Tank collaborated with Buxus on this project, which designed the bike based on its existing Eva model. It received a single hub-mounted electric motor, hydraulic brakes with dual-piston calipers on each wheel, robust suspension and 20-inch wheels. The battery pack holds 20 ampere-hours of juice.

Instead of a dashboard, the bike has a dedicated smartphone holder with a connection port. Owners can also use their phone as a security key to unlock the powertrain.

Design-wise, the bike was stylized to resemble the Tank 300 Frontier Edition with its yellow-black exterior (including even the wheel rims) and lots of corresponding badges.

Only 300 units will be made in total.
