China’s longest minivan gets a price

Great Wall’s Wey has announced the pricing for its Gaoshan MPV: the most opulent version, which is also the longest minivan on its domestic market, will cost 405,800 Yuan (U.S. $55,500). Going for the cheapest trim will set you back 335,800 Yuan ($45,900).

The standard version (see video) is 5,045 mm long, 1,960 mm wide and 1,900 mm tall with 3,085 mm between the axles. The range-topping Executive spec is 5,405 mm long and has 3,275 mm of wheelbase.

The manufacturer previews the base trim version with seven seats inside, including two individual seats in the middle row and a bench at the rear. The stretched version ditches the bench for another two seats. Out of these, the rear-row seats get power adjustments, heating and ventilation; the middle-row ones get all of the above plus a 10-area pneumatic massage function.

The Executive trim adds a 20-speaker Harman/Kardon audio system, an intercom, a climate control system with an air freshener, and a ‘starry sky’ LED ceiling.

Power for the Gaoshan comes from a plug-in hybrid powertrain based on a 1.5-liter turbo engine. The combined output peaks at 487 PS (480 hp / 358 kW) and 762 Nm (562 lb-ft) of torque, letting it zap 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 5.7 seconds – not bad for a minivan that stretches the definition of ‘mini’. A 38-kWh battery pack allows it to run 140–160 km (87–99 miles) on electricity alone, WLTC-rated.
