Wey Tank 300 undergoes off-road preparation

China-based carmaker Wey has shown an off-road-ready version of its Tank 300 SUV. The new trim is essentially the same model with a handful of accessories slapped on.

This includes plastic fender flares, heavy-duty bumpers (with a special light bar mount arch at the front end), two winches, an expedition rack, all-terrain tires, new suspension springs, and a snorkel pipe.

Other than that, the Tank 300 is a body-on-frame SUV based on the Haval H9 chassis with per-wheel suspension at the front a solid beam in the rear. It features AWD with a hard coupling on the front axle, a reduction gear, two inter-wheel diff locks, and multiple drive modes to choose from. Angles of approach, departure and ramp amount to 33, 34 and 23.1 degrees, accordingly. The road clearance is 224 millimeters (8.75”). The car can wade water as high as 700 mm (2.3 feet) and climb 70-degree slopes.

Powering the Tank 300 is a single-option turbo-four engine rated at 227 hp (169 kW) and 387 Nm (285 lb-ft) of torque, mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. Sales should start in December, and prices remain to be announced.
