Great Wall-owned car brand Tank has launched its hybrid off-roader with the model designation ‘500’ in China. Like its V6-powered counterpart, it starts at 335,000 Chinese Yuan despite the rumors that it would be priced at least 30,000 Yuan higher.
The new modification is called ‘Tank 500 Hi4-T’ and produces a combined 408 PS (402 hp / 300 kW) along with 750 Nm (553 lb-ft) of torque. The petrol SUV only manages 354 PS (349 hp / 260 kW) and 500 Nm (369 lb-ft). This, along with the fact that the hybrid is more complex by design, made many of us expect it to be considerably more expensive.
In addition to the extra power, the Tank 500 Hi4-T also consumes very little gas – 2.2 liters per 100 km, which roughly translates into 107 MPG. Once fully charged, its battery gives up to 110 km (68 miles) of all-electric range.
The manufacturer has not clarified yet whether this hybrid version would later become available outside of China.
